The Importance of Goals

Back in 2020, Daniel was unsure of his goals due to the pandemic. Daniel decided to go to school at Humber College to pursue his education. Daniel then decided he wanted to join the Career Connection program to discover his possible career path. In March of 2021, Daniel worked with his job coach and had the goal of becoming a security guard. However, Daniel soon realized that this would be more of a long-term goal and acquiring hands on experience in the workplace, regardless of what field, would be beneficial.
In May of 2021, Daniel secured a part time role at a grocery store. Daniel said it was not the most glamorous of roles but stated “that was the best thing I ever did because it got me to where I wanted to be”. Daniel said even though this was not the exact position he wanted; he knew that the hands-on experience and exposure to a working environment would help him in the long run.
Daniel graduated from his college program in April of 2022 while still working at the grocery store. Daniel was proud of balancing both school and work and then wanted to take the next step in his employment journey. Daniel had tried a couple of places with no luck but continued to work on his employment skills with his job coach so he would be ready when an opportunity arose. Daniel was determined to work at Trillium Health Partners as he felt it would be a good place to grow and a possible networking opportunity for his security guard future.
In the summer of 2024, Daniel secured an interview at Trillium Health Partners. Daniel stated, “the preparation was the best part” referring to the interview preparation he completed with his job coach prior. Due to Daniel’s hard work and determination, he was offered the role at Trillium Health Partners, and he began his new career at the end of September 2024. Daniel has been doing exceptional in this role and has left his other position at the grocery store to focus on this new opportunity.
Daniel is a prime example of the importance of having goals and the steps necessary to achieve long term success. Daniel’s job coach was instrumental in this journey to provide the support needed to obtain this goal. Daniel has not established a next goal, he believes the best is yet to come with all his hard work and ongoing support. Congratulations to Daniel!
