In the beginning of April 2021, Julia joined Community Living Mississauga’s – Career Connection 6-Week Job Path Employment Readiness Program as a recent high school graduate. Deciding what to pursue after high school can be daunting for some – not for Julia. Immediately Julia expressed she was looking to further develop her employment readiness skills as she had a goal of obtaining full time employment. To have a goal is one thing – to plan and execute is another thing. Julia demonstrated that she was Motivated, Reliable, and Dependable throughout the Job Path Program and was recommended to receive support through the Career Connection – Employment Ontario Program.
Over the past year, Julia’s willingness to learn/try new things, meeting with her Job Coach to further develop her skills, and accepting training opportunities that arose provided her with the confidence and foundation to find a position that was best suited for her. Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic, Julia has overcome many obstacles that had prevented her from obtaining her employment goals. Julia’s persistence, positive attitude, motivation, and willingness to try/learn new skills, were all favorable to her employment success!
In May 2022, Julia applied for a Warehouse position at DSV Solutions in Brampton and was contacted to complete an interview. Julia was offered a full time position and began her new position on May 24, 2022.
Julia continues to work full-time at DSV Solutions, and she has said, “I really like working at DSV Solutions, and everyone is friendly”. Julia’s Mother shared, “I have seen a positive change in Julia, and she is excited to start work each day”. Teresa also shared that, “Julia has become more confident and independent since starting at DSV Solutions, especially with taking transit”. Being employed brought a sense of pride to the valued social role Julia fulfills.
